Skeletal Remains Found In Shinnecock Hills

Skeletal remains were unearthed Monday, August 13, on a wooded lot in Shinnecock Hills — in the ancestral burial grounds of the Shinnecock Indian Nation, which has a reservation about three miles away in Southampton.

The remains were found at about 1 PM at 10 Hawthorne Road, according to Suffolk County Police. Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the remains, and have arranged for them to be transported to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office for analysis by an anthropologist. County police provided no additional information.

Southampton Town Police declined to comment, citing protocol that the county had taken over the investigation.
