Government Brief
The Village of East Hampton approved a referendum to increase the Length of Service Awards program for ambulance members. The vote was held in the Emergency Services Building on Tuesday, December 11, and it passed 58 to 2.
This will amend the defined benefits program that was put into effect on January 1, 1995. Effective January 1, 2019 it will increase the annual service award accrual from $240 to $360 for each year of volunteer service. In addition, the maximum monthly service award that will be accrued will increase from $800 to $1200, based on 40 years of service credit earned.
This new amendment is, however, expected to raise the cost of the service award program from $85,107 to $97,000, depending on future volunteer applicants. For additional information, contact Becky Hansen at 631-324-4150.
