EH Cops: Crash In Woods Leads To DWI Charge

A Springs woman is facing an aggravated driving while intoxicated charge after crashing a 2016 Jeep into the woods just yards from her home at about 4 PM February 11, East Hampton Town police reported.

Kathleen Beatty, 56, allegedly told the officer who first arrived on the scene, “I’m so wrong, sorry,” admitting that she had been behind the wheel. At headquarters, a breath test produced a reading of 0.20 of one percent alcohol in the blood, high enough to raise the misdemeanor charge to the aggravated level.

Beatty was not hurt the crash, after striking two trees before coming to a stop, police said. She was held overnight, and was released without bail the next morning, due to her ties to the community.

An East Hampton man was also released without bail following his arraignment on a DWI charge on Sunday morning after he spent a few hours in a holding cell at police headquarters. Police say Oscar Solis-Gutierrez, 41, was driving a 2001 Chrysler unsafely early Sunday morning on Montauk Highway near Stephen Hands Path. His breath test reading of 0.11 exceeded the 0.08 mark that defines intoxication in New York State. A first-time offender, he was charged with DWI at the misdemeanor level.
