At The Library

The Mattituck-Laurel Library will screen “On the Basis of Sex,” which depicts Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s struggle for equal rights for women and early career cases, on Friday, April 19, at 1:30 PM. The event is free.

The library will also host “Babies Boogie” for ages three to 24 months on April 24 at 10:30 AM and “Toddler Tango” for ages 25 months to three years on April 24 at 11:30 AM. Registration is required, but the events are free.

The library will present a “Women’s DIY Craft Night” on April 25 at 6 PM, where participants can paint a ceramic pineapple. There is a fee of $10, and those interested can register at the circulation desk. Call 631-298-4134.

Suffolk County Historical Society

The Suffolk County Historical Society Museum will be transformed into a children’s museum during “Kids Week” from April 24 through April 27.

The museum signage will temporarily be re-interpreted for school-age children, and touch-table educational play stations will be available for hands-on experiences. There will also be the “Historical Play Room,” where children can dress in colonial garb and play with old-world games, toys, and crafts. On Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, there will also be live music featuring historic songs of Long Island.

Roadwork!

If you are driving on State Route 25 in the Town of Southold, expect some shifts in travel patterns to accommodate ongoing roadwork.

Travel lanes will be shifted between Skunk Lane and Albertson Lane on Mondays through Fridays from 10 AM to 3 PM. The traffic shift is necessary to ensure a safe work zone while highway crews perform preventative maintenance. Travel lanes will remain open in both directions. The work, which is part of a $2.6 million crack-sealing project covering over 50 miles of the East End’s state roads to extend the pavement’s life, is expected to be finished in approximately two months.

Boating Classes

The Peconic Bay Power Squadron has scheduled a number of courses and seminars at North Fork locations next month.

The squadron will host boating courses with Vince Mauceri on May 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Southold at 6:30 PM and on May 2 at the Port of Egypt Marina in Southold at 8 AM. Each course will be $50. Another course will be held at Loyal Order of Moose in Riverhead on May 29 at 7 PM for $25. Business Advisory Committee

The Riverhead Town Board is seeking applicants for a new business advisory committee. The 13-member committee will exchange ideas and advise the board on matters pertaining to business in the town.

Food Allergy Talk

Eastern Long Island Hospital will host an informational session on food allergies on May 2 at 6:15 PM at the Southold Town Recreation Department.

Dr. Paul Ehrlich will give a talk on new approaches to diagnosis and treatment in adults and children, while Dr. Dhiren Mehta will talk about non-allergic food sensitivities and intolerance in adults and children. Refreshments will be served prior to the talks.
