Thinking Of The Unthinkable
The Hampton Library in Bridgehampton will present “Run, Hide, Fight: How To Respond To An Active Shooter,” on Saturday, April 27, at 1 PM. Lieutenant Todd Spencer, of the Southampton Town Police Department, will facilitate the event, which is intended to teach people how to respond in a rational way if confronted with such an act of violence.
Montauk Library Renovation Plan
The Montauk Library’s series of community input sessions, in advance of a May 21 bond vote for a planned renovation and expansion project, will continue on Saturday, April 27 at 1 PM.
The session will feature the project’s architectural and construction management team. Ray Beeler of Gallin Beeler Design Studio, which was selected to design the new space, and Nick Amoruso, the president, and Bob Caliendo, the project executive of SCC Construction Management Group, which will oversee the project, will all be at the meeting as will members of the library’s board of trustees.
Additional sessions will be held on May 1 at 12 PM, May 7 at 3:30 PM, and May 15 at 10 AM. All sessions will be held at the library.
Flying Point First Responder Training
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and the Flying Point Foundation for Autism will present an Autism First Responder Training Conference on May 4 from 9 AM to 12 PM at the Southampton Town Senior Center in Hampton Bays.
Thomas Buckley, the statewide coordinator for the Rhode Island Autism and Law Enforcement Education Coalition, will present the free workshop for EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, other first responders, hospital and school personnel, and law enforcement.
The event will focus on preparing for an emergency involving a person with an Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as how to identify characteristics and behaviors and how to effectively communicate with a person with ASD. It also will also explain special tactics, rescue techniques, and patient care.
