Spring Into Collecting

Alex Ferrone Gallery in Cutchogue opens a new season of art with its fourth edition of the “Spring into Collecting” exhibit and will celebrate the artists with a free public reception on Saturday, May 18, from 6 to 8 PM. Exhibiting artists include Patricia Beary, Karen Bell, Lucy Dewitt, Alex Ferrone, Richard Gardner, Ray Germann, Gerry Giliberti, Katherine Liepe-Levinson, Mike McLaughlin, Barbara Macklowe, Robert Mielenhausen, Jim Sabiston, Steven Schreiber, Mac Titmus, and Pamela Waldroup. The show runs through June 23.

Grenning Gallery

The Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor presents Carl Bretzke’s “Best in Show” and Jim Rennert’s “Business in Bronze.” The shows open Saturday with a reception from 6 to 7:30 PM. The exhibits run through June 9.

Hills & Valleys

The Parrish Art Museum has selected Bridgehampton-based multimedia artist Candace Hill Montgomery as one of two participants in the 2019 Parrish Road Show, the museum’s creative off-site exhibition series featuring temporary projects by East End artists to connect creativity to everyday life. Recently, Hill Montgomery has focused her practice on weavings that reflect her life as well as current political/sociological issues. Approximately 25 of the weavings will be featured in the exhibition “Hills & Valleys” at the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum, from May 17 through June 16.

In addition to this off-site exhibition, the Parrish Art Museum will feature works by both 2019 Road Show artists (Hill Montgomery and Laurie Lambrecht) in the museum through November 10.

Artists At Home

East Hampton Historical Society presents the photographic exhibition “Artists at Home: The Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios Program,” at Clinton Academy Museum. The show includes 50 images of artists in their studios. This exhibit will run from May 17 through July 6, and is open to the public on select Fridays and Saturdays.

Elizabeth Parker: Library Paintings

The Arts Center at Duck Creek presents its first exhibition of the 2019 season, “Elizabeth Parker: Library Paintings.” The show is on view through Sunday, May 26. The exhibition will be open to the public Friday through Sunday, from noon to 5 PM.

Layered Meanings

Ross seventh-grade students present “Layered Meanings: Three East End Artists,” an exhibition featuring Kara Hoblin, Ruby Jackson, and Denise Gale. The show will run through May 24 at the Ross Gallery in East Hampton.

Sara Nightingale

Sara Nightingale Gallery in Sag Harbor presents Suzanne Unrein’s solo exhibit “Slip,” and the group exhibit “Until a Little Bird,” featuring the work of Francine Fleischer, Erica-Lynn Huberty, and Lucy Winton. Both exhibits will be on view through June 3.

Dream Of Roses

The William Ris Gallery in Jamesport welcomes the beauty of spring with the exhibit “Dream of Roses (Rêve De Roses),” a photographic collection of roses by Takashi Matsuzaki. The debut exhibition runs through May 19. Equal parts Tokyoite and New Yorker, Matsuzaki’s roots lie in fashion and he continues to be a sought-after makeup artist. His natural gravitation towards photography eventually led to a concentrated focus on roses, particularly as Matsuzaki has a deep appreciation for and collects perfumes.

Horses On Main Street

Romany Kramoris Gallery presents “Horses on Main Street,” honoring the 145th Kentucky Derby with horse paintings, small sculpture, an old Mexico ceramic folk horse, and more. The show runs through May 23.

Vanishing Act

Halsey McKay Gallery in East Hampton presents “Vanishing Act” with works by artists Colby Bird, David Kennedy Cutler, Fu & Rich, Kara Hamilton, Sheree Hovsepian, Denise Kupferschmidt, Virginia Lee Montgomery, Francis Picabia, Eli Ping, Brie Ruais, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and Wilmer Wilson IV. Upstairs is Lauren Luloff’s “Small Landscapes.” The shows run through June 2.

Retro

The White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton presents “Retro.” The group show runs through May 19. The show aims to evoke feelings of nostalgia by reviving images, styles, colors, and designs from the past.

Refuge

The Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill presents “Thomas Joshua Cooper: Refuge,” the artist’s first solo exhibition in an American museum in nearly two decades. The show is on view until July.

Cooper’s images are made primarily along the coastal and inland waterways of the world. Refuge features photographs taken between 1998 to 2018 along the Eastern seaboard and the Hudson River, anchored by 21 images of seascapes and interior landscapes he made on the East End during his 2016 exploratory commission sponsored by the Lannan Foundation with the Parrish Art Museum.

Moments/Stories

MM Fine Art in Southampton presents “Moments/Stories,” paintings by Peter Beston. The show runs through May 19. The British-born artist had a long career as a film editor before becoming an artist. Now an East End resident and full-time painter, Beston’s work utilizes precise composition. His work is generally described as realist, but his paintings often contain elements of the surreal.

Rob Calvert

In conjunction with Holocaust Remembrance Observance, Sag Harbor resident Rob Calvert will exhibit his six-piece topical series at Temple Adas Israel Gallery Space in Sag Harbor. Ann Chwatsky’s selection for this year’s exhibition marks the first opportunity to see these works. Calvert made the assemblages in response to his 2016 visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland.

The exhibition will run through May.

The Women I Love

The group exhibit “The Women I Love” will run at Keyes Gallery in Sag Harbor through May 17.

Guild Hall

Guild Hall presents two one-person shows by groundbreaking artists. Christine Sciulli, known for her enigmatic light installations, and Yung Jake, whose work takes the form of rap music, animation, and portraiture, will both have work on display. Vantage Points

The Drawing Room in East Hampton presents “Vantage Points,” with art by Adam Bartos, Gotz Diergarten, and Michael Light. The show runs through May 27.

East End Collected5

Artist and curator Paton Miller returns with “East End Collected5” and “EEC Jr.” at the Southampton Arts Center. The show runs through Sunday, June 9.

East End Collected5 reflects Miller’s vision of the East End region as an ideal environment for artists to create work. Through this exhibition, Miller highlights 32 artists. Artists include Casey Chalem Anderson, Michael Cardacino, Sylvia Channing, Jeremy Dennis, Madison Fender, Francine Fleischer, Lori Hawkins, Carol Hunt, Anna Jurinich, Christine Keefe, Suzanne LaFleur, Geralyne Lewandowski, John Margaritis, Alexis Martino, Lauren Matzen, Eric Meola, Oscar Molina, Joanlee Montefusco, Nika Nesgoda, Cindy Pease Roe, Jay Schneiderman, Arden Scott, Ty Stroudsburg, Trina Tozzi Michne, and Isabel Turban.

EEC Jr. artists include Harlan Beeton, Emily Esposito, Kyle McNamara, Cian O’Neill, Kai Parcher-Charles, Finn Pilaro, and J.B. Riffaud.

On The Grid

VSOP Projects in Greenport presents “On The Grid: Contemporary Explorations,” curated by Scott Bluedorn. The show includes artists Rossa Cole, Sabra Moon Eliot, Robert Otto Epstein, Colin Goldberg, John Messinger, Patience Pollock, Bastienne Schmidt, Christine Sciulli, Drew Shiflett, Mike Solomon, and Daniel Sullivan. The exhibit runs through May 19.

Parrish Perspectives

Parrish Perspectives at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill presents artists Renate Aller and Jean-Luc Mylayne. The show runs through July 28. The series features monumentally-scaled photographs drawn from the permanent collection that illuminate the intimate bond between subject and photographer. For more info, visit www.parrishart.org.
