Many attended the May 25 celebration for the Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station’s new sign, which marks the site as an historic landmark of New York. Funded by a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, the sign commemorates the Coast Guard’s defense of Atlantic Avenue Beach from Nazi saboteurs in June, 1942. The sign also marks the station’s recognition on the list of the National Register of Historic Places, which it had received last year from New York State. Now fully restored, the station is a treasure for Amagansett.
