Mattituck Softball Still Alive
Ashley Perkins connected on a bases-clearing single in the bottom of the second inning to spark No. 3 Mattituck to a 6-4 win over No. 4 Hampton Bays in the Class B quarterfinal May 24. Mattituck (12-6, 8-6 in League VI) advanced to take on No.1 Babylon in the semifinal May 28, but results were not available by press time. The winner will face No. 2 Center Moriches in the finals May 30 at Eastport-South Manor High School at 4 PM.
Mattituck was sent to the outbracket after a 15-5 loss to the Red Devils May 22. The Tuckers also dropped a two-game series against Center Moriches by 5-1 and 10-3 scores April 24 and 29.
Because Mattituck and Babylon were eliminated by Center Moriches this postseason, the game will be a winner-take-all if Center Moriches wins. If the Red Devils lose they’ll get a second chance to pull out a victory June 1 at 3:30 PM back at the Eastport Complex.
