The Red Knights Ride For A Cause
More than 100 members of The Red Knights Motorcycle Club took to the road on Sunday, June 2, for their annual bike blessing. As they rode past the Grace Presbyterian Church on Montauk Highway in Water Mill, members of New York Chapter 25 received their blessing from Pastor Mark Middlekauff. Also a member, the chaplain prayed for a safe riding season, blessed each member as they passed, and jumped onto his own bike to join the group as it continued on its route.
According to the chapter’s president, Mark Stark, Sunday’s ride was also a fundraiser for the Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center at Stony Brook Medicine. The center serves all of Suffolk County’s residents and coordinates burn services, conducts training and research in burn care, and provides education and support to burn victims. “In its 14th year, Chapter 25 has managed to raise and donate over $140,000 to the burn center. Last year, we raised over $13,200. We hope to exceed that today. The local chapter also holds ride fundraisers for Love Holds Life Children’s Cancer Foundation and engages in many other charitable causes including Autism awareness,” added Stark.
Part of the Red Knights International Motorcycle Club, the group consists of members of the fire service, and their families. It is open to all firefighters, active, retired, volunteer or industrial who hold a valid motorcycle license and have a motorcycle.
