Concert Under The Stars
On Sunday, August 11, from 6 to 9 PM will be a beautiful “Concert Under the Stars” at Ponquogue Beach Pavilion in Hampton Bays. The annual event, sponsored by Hampton Bays Beautification Association, is one of the biggest events to happen in the area all summer.
Dance band 20 Highview will be performing, a nine-piece ensemble specializing in classics with a funky groove and R&B flair. The group continues strong after 13 years together. Bandmates consist of Vincent Frangipane on guitar and vocals; Michael Jewell, keyboards; Bill Bowling, tenor saxophone; Ben Greenspan, drums; Frank Rizzo, trombone, trumpet, and antics; Vinson Grant, bass guitar, vocals; Joseph Torres, lead and background vocals, percussion; with other lead and background vocals provided by Rasheeda Azar, Dion Mills, and Kevin Morris.
This marks the 24th year of the free concert — a great way to picnic with family, lounge around in lawn chairs, and get up and groove to the beat. There is a food concession open to the public.
Founded in 1985, HBBA strongly believes that beauty makes a community “healthier, vibrant, and more livable.” A beautiful place to live attracts new residents and increases tourism, which contributes to economic growth. Recently, the organization worked on the Hampton Bays Post Office by removing overgrown yews along the sidewalk, continued the brick walkway to Ponquogue Avenue, installing a new sprinkler system, and planted a lawn.
Its Memorial Tree Program aims to re-green the hamlet, and is available to businesses and families alike. The program, three decades old, has planted hundreds of Chanticleer trees around the area. This particular tree is medium height, which doesn’t interfere with electric lines, and blossoms with white flowers in the spring.
There is free parking after 5 PM, as well as handicapped parking, with a shuttle bus provided if needed. Donations appreciated. No pets or alcohol. Ponquogue Beach Pavilion is located at 280 Dune Road in Hampton Bays. Rain date is Friday, August 16. Learn more at www.hbba.net.
