Equality Matters
As part of the Thinking Forward lecture series presented by the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center, Sherrilyn Ifill will give a talk on “Equality Matters in the Hamptons” at Guild Hall’s John Drew Theater in East Hampton on Wednesday, August 14, at 6 PM.
Ifill is the president and director for the Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the nation’s premier civil rights law organization fighting for racial justice and equality. She had previously served as an assistant counsel for LDF from 1988 to 1993, litigating voting right cases, before she taught at the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore. At the University of Maryland, Ifill litigated civil rights cases alongside her students for 20 years. She returned to the LDF in 2013 as its seventh Director-Counsel and has increased the visibility and engagement of the organization while maintaining its decades-long fight against voter suppression, inequity in education, and racial discrimination of the death penalty.
Ken Miller, a writer, financier, and political activist, will moderate the talk. Miller is a venture capital investor in early stage companies and a long-time advisory board member of the Bridgehampton Child Care Center. Doors will open at 5:30 PM. The lecture is free, but tickets can be reserved. For more information, visit www.guildhall.org.
