McEnroe Pro-Am Fundraiser Saturday
Tennis stars John and Patrick McEnroe will be joined by other greats at the fifth annual Johnny Mac Tennis Project’s Pro-Am in the Hamptons on August 24.
The fundraiser at SPORTIME Amagansett Multi-Sport on Abrahams Path benefits John McEnroe’s nonprofit Johnny Mac Tennis Project, which changes lives by removing the economic and social barriers to success through tennis. The pro-am begins at 2 PM and will include a legends exhibition and doubles play, in which participants will compete in a round-robin tournament alongside former Women’s Tennis Association and Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour professionals, current and former Division I college players, as well as top John McEnroe Tennis Academy pros.
“This is a really exciting time for tennis,” John McEnroe said. “As you can imagine, young players coming through our Johnny Mac Tennis Project and JMTA programs are looking at the success of American phenoms like 15-year-old Coco Gauff, who just won a tournament and had an incredible run at Wimbledon, and they are inspired. Our fifth annual Hamptons pro-am is a great way for tennis lovers to come out and be a part of this passion project — to introduce tennis to more young people who would not otherwise have the opportunity, and to help create the next generation of American tennis champions.”
The after party at a private residence begins at 7 PM and will feature music selections by renowned actor and celebrity DJ Alan Cumming. Dress is casual, and guests will enjoy an open bar, food, live entertainment, and dancing. There will also be a live auction.
“I’m thrilled to be joining John McEnroe and JMTP in the effort to make tennis more accessible, inclusive and affordable for young New Yorkers,” Cumming said. “Tennis, like any major sport, is larger than just a game, which is something I was pleased to have the chance to explore playing the role of designer Ted Tinling in Battle of the Sexes. Sports and sports figures have a responsibility to confront social inequality, and it’s great that JMTP is doing that. People should come out to support this cause. And I’ll do my part to keep the good vibes alive in the DJ booth.”
