Mattituck-Laurel Library

The Mattituck-Laurel Library will have “Babies Boogie”, for ages three to 24 months old, and Toddlers Tango, for ages 25 months to three years old, on Thursday, August 8, at 1 PM and 2 PM, respectively. Registration is required, and children must be attended with a caregiver. The event is free.

The History Lovers book discussion will talk about Gene Kranz’s memoir “Failure Is Not an Option: Mission Control from Mercury to Apollo 13 and Beyond” on Thursday, August 8, at 6:30 PM. Kranz, who was NASA’s first flight director, talks about his time at NASA and the saving of the trapped astronauts on Apollo 13.

Staller Center Stony Brook University will present the Staller Center Instrument Petting Zoo for children ages three to five on Friday, August 9, at 11 AM. Kids will get the chance to listen and play real instruments from the university’s orchestra. Registration is required, but the event is free.

The library will screen “The Aftermath,” about a British colonel and his wife who live in Hamburg during post-World War II reconstruction, on Friday, August 9, at 1:30 PM. For more events, visit www.mattlibrary.org.

Custer Concert

Blow Up Hollywood will perform works from their newest unreleased album, “Dust from the Stars,” on Saturday, August 10, at 8 PM at the Custer Institute in Southold.

The underground American ambient art-rock collective reflects on the cosmos, our journey, and genesis from stardust to our current state of being in their latest album. The concert will occur as the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower nears, when the Earth passes through the dust left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle. Antiques Roadshow

The Suffolk County Historical Society in Riverhead will host “Trash or Treasure Antiques Roadshow” with appraiser Eddie Costello on Saturday, August 10, from 1 to 3 PM. The first 50 people who register will have the opportunity to bring an item they would like to have appraised. For more information, visit www.suffolkcountyhistoricalsociety.org.

Folk Art Frakturs Class

The Southold Historical Society will host a Folk Art Frakturs Class on Monday, August 12, at 1 PM.

Frakturs, Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Art, have been crafted for centuries to commemorate special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and more. Darlene Siracusano will teach adults and children older than eight how to make a Fraktur with antique paper and traditional shapes. For more information, visit www.southoldhistoricalsociety.org.

Painting Class

Rita Rooney will host “Painting the View,” a painting class, at the East End Seaport Museum in Greenport on Thursday, August 15, from 6:30 to 9 PM.
