History and heritage were celebrated at the 73rd Annual Shinnecock Indian Powwow, which began on August 30, and continued through the Labor Day weekend. The powwow included dancers, drumming, songs, and vendors offering native arts, crafts, and foods. Representatives of native tribes from all over the world celebrated their heritage with the hundreds in attendance. The ceremonial dances and drumming continued into the evening with sunset fire lightings, creating a unique backdrop to enhance the performances. The powwow concluded on Labor Day with an awards ceremony.
