RipTide At The Spur

Jay Schneiderman, Barbara Roberts, Brian Halweil, and Kathleen King will be the panel for the 2019 RipTide competition at The Spur.

Submit your start-up or business idea by September 25 for a chance to win up to $50,000 in start-up funding and prizes. Based on the popular “Shark Tank” format, stand out businesses will be selected to present their ideas to the panel, which is looking for innovative businesses focused on health, wellness, food, drink, hospitality, media, technology, retail, consumer, and sustainable products. Rogers Memorial Library

The Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton will offer “Living and Dying: Reflection and Conversation,” with social worker Paula Peterson on Thursday, September 26, at 5:30 PM in the Cooper Hall Board Room.

The library will host a clothing swap on Saturday, September 28, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Donate unwanted clothing and accessories and trade them for new ones. To participate, bring five to 10 items of clothing, clean and in good shape, and prepare to “shop.”

“Drawdown: An Introduction” will be presented on Monday, September 30, at 10:30 AM, followed by “Drawdown: Solutions” at 11:30 AM. Paul Hawken’s plan focuses on the opportunities for change involving energy use for individuals and communities to combat climate change. Local group leaders will discuss the project as well as actions that can help to reverse global warming.

Westhampton Free Library

The Westhampton Free Library will host “Introduction to Sound Healing,” a guided meditation for children on Friday, September 27. The program will be open to children in kindergarten through third grade at 4 PM, and grades four through 12 at 5:30 PM. The meditation will be led by Tim Spillane.

On Saturday, September 28, at 6 PM, the library invites families to its All Around the World Family Festival. The event, which will take place at the gazebo on Main Street in Westhampton Beach, will feature international foods, lawn games, and a movie.

As part of its Lunch and Learn series, the library will host a discussion on graffiti as modern art on Friday, October 4, at noon. The discussion will be led by Suffolk County Community College professor of art Ranelle Wolf, who will discuss the meaning of modern art and art from the 1860s through the 1970s.

Fire Department Breakfast

The Bridgehampton Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast at the firehouse, 64 School Street in Bridgehampton, on Sunday, September 29, from 7 AM to noon.

Menu will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon. Gluten-free pancakes will be available. Support the local fire department while it raises money for future events involving the community. Adults eat for $12, children (three to 12) $6, and children under three eat for free. There will also be a 50-50 raffle available at the door.

Westhampton Events

The Greater Westhampton Chamber of Commerce will be hosting three events, rain or shine, on the weekend of September 28 and 29.

The Westhampton Lawn Fest will be held on Saturday, September 28, from 11 AM to 6 PM, on the Great Lawn, Potunk Lane and Main Street, Westhampton Beach. The event will feature music, carnival games, family entertainment, food trucks, a beer garden, a petting zoo, Pawcasso paint events, and a Bideawee adoption booth.

The annual Gordon Werner Arts and Crafts Show will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 10 AM to 6 PM and Sunday, September 29, from 10 AM to 5 PM, on the Great Lawn.

The popular fall show will feature a variety of talented vendors who specialize in fine art, stained glass, jewelry, pottery, and blown glass. Both weekend days will also feature the fall sidewalk sales, held each day from 11 AM to 6 PM, where local business owners will be showcasing their unique and specialty merchandise.

“If there is ever a weekend to be in Westhampton Beach, it is certainly the weekend of September 28 and 29,” said Stephanie McEvoy, arts show director. “There will be something for everyone.”

Coffee And Conversation

Nick & Toni’s and the East Hampton Chamber of Commerce will co-host “Coffee & Conversation” from 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 1. The subject will be Recruiting and Retaining Employees, and the event will feature a presentation by Ari Wind of Benefits Mall. He’ll be discussing alternative ways to reduce health care costs for small to midsize businesses. Complimentary baked goods and coffee will be served. Schools Host Vaping Talks

East Hampton and Southampton High School will present “Vaping: Harming our Kids and Stealing our Tax Dollars” at East Hampton High School on Wednesday, October 2, at 7 PM, and Southampton High School on Thursday, October 3, at 7 PM, featuring nationally recognized experts Victor Denoble and Bonnie Halpern-Felsher.
