Close To Half A Million For The Retreat

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Retreat, which provides safety, shelter, and support for victims of domestic abuse on the East End of Long Island and throughout Suffolk County, has been awarded $450,000 to expand its transitional housing assistance facilities for victims of domestic violence.

“This grant supports funding for transitional housing and a range of supportive services for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence so that they can live independent, violence-free lives,” said The Retreat’s executive director Loretta K. Davis.

“With this kind of critical, essential support, families can relocate to a safe place, children can be enrolled in school, jobs can be secured and a new life begins leading to a permanent safe home,” she continued. “Since survivors can take advantage of our free comprehensive services, including counseling, advocacy, job placement, and financial planning, this grant really does help survivors transform their lives. We are so thankful for the award of this grant because of the significant impact it has on the lives of our clients.”

Transitional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking Program funds organizations to assist victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking who are in need of transitional housing, short-term housing assistance, and related supportive services. Eligible applicants are states, units of local government, Native American tribes, and other organizations with a documented history of effective work concerning sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.
