Montauk Coffee House

On Friday, October 11, at 7 PM, Montauk Community Church Coffee House presents Pat DeRosa and family. DeRosa, a legendary saxophonist, will perform with his daughter Patricia on piano and granddaughter Nicole on vocals.

Ille Arts

On Saturday, October 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Ille Arts Gallery, The Neo-Political Cowgirls, and Sheri Sandler invite the community to an evening of networking and conversation where wine and appetizers will be served.

A panel with The Neo-Political Cowgirls not-for-profit founder and Artistic Director Kate Mueth, Ille Arts Director Sara DeLuca, and Babette’s restauranteur Barbara Layton will start the discussion. The topic of conversation will be the challenges of sustaining creative endeavors and the outlook for women in creative entrepreneurship on the East End and beyond.

The panel will look at the specifics of why the road is more precarious in fields of creativity, what changes are needed, how communities can be more engaged, and ideas for problem-solving. Guests are invited to bring business cards for sharing during the networking portion.

Qigong Class

All are welcome to feel body, mind, and spirit during a qigong class at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork Sunday, October 13, at noon. Largest Clam Contest

Judging for the 29th annual Largest Clam Contest begins Sunday, October 13, at noon at the East Hampton Town Trustees office on the corner of Bluff Road and Atlantic Avenue in Amagansett. Submit your clams up until October 12. Special events include a clam chowder contest, where the public is invited for free chowder and a clam bar.

Only holders of a valid East Hampton Town shellfish license may enter the contest. Parents may enter clams for children between the ages of four and 14 by writing their own names along with their children’s name and age on their entry cards. All clams entered must be caught in certified East Hampton Town waters between October 5 and 12. Only hard clams — mercenaria mercenaria — are eligible, and contestants must comply with all shellfishing regulations and enter a maximum one clam per contestant per day.

Bring your clams to one of the following places to be entered in the contest: Amagansett Seafood Store, Gosman’s Retail Fish Market in Montauk, The Seafood Shop in Wainscott, or Stuart’s Seafood Market in Amagansett. Entries are to be placed in a mesh bag provided, with a card providing your name, the date, and the harbor of capture. There is a $1 entry fee per clam. A panel of three judges will choose the winners of the contest.

Amagansett Library Children’s Programs

On Sunday, October 13, at 2 PM, Amagansett Free Library will host full moon story time to celebrate the month’s harvest moon.

On Wednesday, October 16, at 4 PM, children are welcome to meet Valentino, an American Kennel Club certified Canine Good Citizen. Kids are welcome to read to Valentino or hear a story read by Shari, his human companion.

EH Chamber Of Commerce Mixer

On Wednesday, October 16, from 5 to 7 PM, Coche Comedor and the East Hampton Chamber of Commerce will co-host an after-business-hours mixer at Coche Comedor in Amagansett. Complimentary salsa and chips will be served and a specially-priced $10 signature margarita will be offered. The restaurant is located at 74 Montauk Highway, next door to La Fondita.

Rogers Memorial Library

Marilyn Carminio will be at Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Wednesday, October 16, for a 1 PM talk titled “Objects of Desire: How Precious Gems Shaped History.” This lecture will look at the history of precious gems through the centuries with a focus on royal and celebrity jewels.

On Saturday, October 19, at 10:30 AM, the library will offer a self-defense workshop for women with Grand Master Gene Perceval.

On Sunday, October 20, at 3 PM, the Friends of the Rogers Memorial Library will present internationally-acclaimed pianist Paul Verona in concert. There is no charge for this program.
