Westhampton Senior Places Third In Auto Competition
Westhampton Beach senior Harvey Edwards has always been mechanically inclined, and his natural ability, coupled with some hard work studying automotive technology at Eastern Suffolk BOCES, earned him third place at the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association Regional Competition in Queens on January 9.
Edwards, a second-year BOCES student, earned his spot in the top three by competing against his peers in a series of timed activity sets, including ones that focused on circuits, voltage, and alignment. His win qualifies him to take part in the state competition in February.
Edwards can also be found working his own truck at Otis Ford in Quogue, or at the Quogue Fire Department, where he is a member of the explorers program. He intends to become a firefighter with the department. He plans to study diesel technology at Lincoln Technical Institute in Connecticut in the fall.
