First Place In Auto Competition
Riverhead High School students Nicholas Camarata and Adam McAlister worked as a team to earn first place in the Greater New York Auto Dealers Association’s Long Island Competition in Queens. With the win, the boys each received $25,000 in scholarships and an opportunity to participate in the state finals, with a goal to make it to the national competition in April.
To win first place, Camarata and McAlister had to complete timed tasks at stations that required them to fix engine, alignment, battery, and electrical issues. They diagnosed each problem in the fastest time. Camarata and McAlister are both studying automotive technology at the H.B. Ward Technical Center in Riverhead.
