Blood Drive
A winter blood drive will be held in the Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital Conference Room on Thursday, February 20, from 8:15 AM to 5:15 PM. Quilting At Hallockville
Celebrate Black History Month at Hallockville Museum Farm. Learn about the importance of quilting to the African American culture. Join artist and author Faith Ringgold on Thursday, February 20, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, while she takes you through the world of “Tar Beach,” and how she uses quilting to tell stories. Students ages 9 to 12 years old will listen to the book and create collage quilts to tell their own story. Members pay $15, non-members $20. Visit www.hallockville.com.
Suffolk County History Museum
Winter break and fun for kids will be had at the Suffolk County History Museum in Riverhead. The museum signage will be temporarily reinterpreted for school-age children. Dress in colonial garb, role play, compete in old-world games, and scavenger hunt for prizes from Wednesday, February 19 through Saturday, February 22 from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. Admission is free for children and $5 per adult. Complimentary cookies and juice will be offered, and there will also be crafts.
In honor of Black History Month learn about African American family history research at the museum on Saturday, February 29 at 1 PM with genealogist Sandi Brewster-Walker. The event is free to members, $5 for non-members.

Mashomack
Calling all visionary nature lovers. Take a tour of the Katharine Ordway Wildlife Refuge at Mashomack Point, which is opened for a guided walk just once a year. Make A Bird Feeder
Join Group for the East End at Hallock State Park Preserve on Saturday, February 22, from noon to 2 PM and 2:30 to 4 PM to a bird feeder wreath. All materials will be provided, except Bundt cake baking pans. A $5 materials fee is due at the time of the program. Space is limited to 20, so sign up as soon as possible. Meet ELIH’s New Surgeon
Get to know surgeon Melany Hughes, who recently joined the ranks at Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. She will be at the Peconic Landing on Tuesday, February 25, at 4 PM. She is board-certified and trained in multi-disciplinary, trauma, and general surgical procedures. She has also completed a research fellowship with the World Health Organization.
