Update On Coronavirus On East End
Rumors have swirled all weekend that Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is treating the first confirmed case of novel coronavirus in Suffolk County. Sunday night Ashley John Heather, who runs The Spur, sent members the following:
“Spur Member, please be aware of the following information. It was reported to us from a credible source that on Friday evening a Greenport resident was taken to the ICU at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. Today, he unfortunately tested positive for CoronaVirus (CV).”
The Spur provides interact meeting spaces for fellow entrepreneurs.
“While we do not want to promote fear, we do want to keep our members healthy and informed,” Heather wrote. Hospital officials said there would be an update Monday, March 9, but Lauren Sheprow, a public information officer for Stony Brook University Hospital, said she could not confirm the information and that the State Department of Health would provide an update shortly.
Shoreham Wading River School District abruptly suspended classes this morning after officials there said the spouse of a faculty member had tested positive. It could not immediately be gleaned if the cases are connected.
