Police Investigating Death Of Lazy Point Windsurfer
A windsurfer was pulled out of the water off Lazy Point in Amagansett on Monday evening and pronounced dead at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital a short time later.
East Hampton Town police and the Amagansett Fire Department were called at 5:23 PM May 4 to the end of Lazy Point Road after a man had been pulled out Napeague Harbor. Emergency medical service personnel were told the man was in cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was underway.
Lt. John Claflin said the 58-year-old had reportedly been windsurfing. There were several windsurfers still in the area early Monday evening.
An Amagansett Fire Department ambulance transported the man to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:38 PM.
The detectives division is investigating the circumstances, Claflin said. It was not immediately clear if the man experienced a medical event or if there was an accident.
In the summer of 2014, a 39-year-old man from Brooklyn died in a kitesurfing incident off Lazy Point.
