Southampton Extends Executive Orders
Supervisor Jay Schneiderman has extended the Town of Southampton’s emergency order banning non-residents at local beaches.
His latest emergency order limiting the use of all town beaches, not just parking lots, to residents, legal renters, and those staying at hotels or visiting family and friends, is in effect through June 5. The order, originally signed May 27 and in effect through May 31, also restricts roadside parking near beaches.
Emergency orders like this, suspending local laws, are limited to no more than five days. The town said this emergency order is likely to be extended.
He also just signed Emergency Order #8, extending a State of Emergency order for the town from May 31 through June 7.
This was done in order to finalize plans for Phase 1 of reopening town operations. This is consistent with orders issued by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the guidance documents provided by the state and federal governments.
