Warm Outgoing Shinnecock Tides Best
Shinnecock
The bay in and around the Inlet has seen bluefish, striped bass, and a few fluke. For the most part, the outgoing tides remain the best time due to the warmer water temperatures. Some have done well up in the Quogue canal with a few fluke and weakfish. Best baits for the fluke are squid/spearing combo or the gulp scented baits.
The bluefish will take tins, soft plastics, or most anything you throw at them. If you’re looking to target the bass with bait clams or bunker chunks, you’ll do fine. Bass on artificials is productive too, using soft plastics, bucktails, or swimming plugs. The local reefs and wrecks should be showing signs of life too, but weather has not made that trip possible as of late.
Peconic
The porgies are in the normal spots around Jessups Neck and taking clams with clam chum. The schoolie bass are around most of the back bay areas and in and near the small inlets, best to target them with soft plastics. Bluefish have made their way to the Peconics as well and are chasing bunker.
Shorebound
The Shinnecock canal has been very active with many species being caught. Striped bass, bluefish, fluke, porgies, blowfish, kingfish, and of course, sea robins. The baits of choice have been squid/spearing, clams, worms, and gulps. The Ponquogue bridge/pier has had some striped bass and a few fluke. Over at the Shinnecock inlet, striped bass, bluefish, and fluke have all been reported. Quogue Canal has produced fluke, striped bass, and a few weakfish.
To the north, in the Peconics, the small inlets and back bays have seen porgies and striped bass.
