Meet the Pitmasters at Green Hill Kitchen & Que
Green Hill Kitchen & Que in Greenport will host a Pitmaster Series, featuring BBQ cooked by well-known chefs from around the country who will work alongside Green Hill Chef Matty Boudreau. The series will be held on Saturdays throughout July and August, complete with live music that starts each week at 3 p.m.
The series features the likes of Pig Beach and Memphis BBQ Company in the coming weeks. Each chef in the series will prepare a special BBQ dish that will remain available until they run out.
First up in the series, which begins on Saturday, July 25, is Pig Beach of Brooklyn, New York and Palm Beach. Founding Pitmaster Rob Shawger and Chef Matt Abdoo will be cooking up pork ribs, while guests listen to the music by Hot Lava.
“We are so excited for the upcoming inaugural Pitmasters Series at Green Hill Kitchen & Que because it brings my favorite part of the BBQ world to us, the camaraderie,” says Boudreau.
A BBQ hobby for Shawger and Abdoo quickly turned into a passion, ultimately leading them to the World Series of BBQ Competition in Memphis. There, the two placed first in Poultry and second in Whole Hog during their very first appearance. They took their win back to New York City where they opened Pig Beach in 2015.
On Saturday, August 1, it’s Gotham Social Club with meat aficionado Mike Puma cooking smash burgers. Music will be by Hopefully Forgiven. Puma is the founder of The Gotham Burger Social Club, a group of 15 gentlemen who rate a different burger each month. They have become one of the most trusted sources to find the best burgers in NYC.
August 8 will see Hogapalooza, with Pitmaster Kelly Dallas cooking a whole hog. There will be music by Jon Divello and Friends. Dallas started Hogapalooza in 1998 as a competition team. It later evolved into a catering business that now travels all over the country.
On August 15 it’s BBQ Ninja with Pitmaster Ninja and music by Hopefully Forgiven. On August 22, Pig Beach returns with Shawger and Shane McBride. There will be music by Hot Lava.
To close out the series, on Saturday, August 29, it’s Memphis BBQ Company with John Wheeler making Waygu brisket and music by Dave Kellan. Wheeler, the head cook for the Natural Born Grillers BBQ Team, is one of the most award-winning BBQ cooks in the world, having won multiple World Championship and over 75 Grand Championships. He’s a partner and Pitmaster in the Memphis Barbecue Company, one of the best BBQ restaurants in the country.
“They call it the ‘BBQ family’ when you share the meals, recipes, tricks and love of this awesome culinary American pastime,” says Boudreau. “The range of techniques, styles and amazing personalities makes each one of these event dates a can-not-be-missed day.”
