Riverhead Crash Leaves Motorcyclist Dead
A motorcyclist died in a two-vehicle crash in Riverhead Sunday evening.
According to Riverhead police, a 2003 Honda Civic was traveling east on Sound Avenue when a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle heading west entered the eastbound lane and struck the Honda, east of Horton Avenue just before 6 p.m.
The motorcyclist, a 45-year-old woman, was thrown from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.
The Honda left the roadway and turned over.
Riverhead Fire Department personnel extricated the driver, a 50-year-old driver from the vehicle. The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported him to Peconic Bay Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. His name was also not released.
The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction unit assisted Riverhead police in its investigation into the crash.
