Detectives Investigating Riverhead Shooting
Police are investigating a shooting that left one person injured in Riverhead during the early morning hours on Wednesday.
Riverhead police received a call from a resident at the Riverpoint Apartments on East Main Street about gun shots they heard in the area at 2:24 a.m. When police officers responded, they found a woman with minor non-life threatening injuries to her right arm. She was reportedly hit by three pellets from what was described as a shotgun.
The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported her to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for medical treatment.
Detectives are investigating. The exact cause of the incident is currently unknown, police said in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
New York State police and its K9 unit located evidence related to the investigation.
