Traffic Pattern Change on the LIE in Riverhead

Traffic will be shifted on the Long Island Expressway in Riverhead as ongoing work on a bridge deck is completed.
On Monday, the New York State Department of Transportation advised drivers of the traffic pattern change between Exit 71, part of Route 24, and Exit 72, part of Route 25, on the LIE.
The eastbound and westbound travel lanes will be shifted on the eastbound span of the bridge over River Road to the westbound span to facilitate an ongoing bridge deck replacement project, the DOT said. The shift will be completed by Wednesday and the new pattern is expected to remain in place for about three months.
There will be two lanes of traffic in each direction from just west of the Edwards Avenue overpass to just east of River Road. Drivers will be promoted with signs and take notice of new pavement markings.
The DOT reminded drivers that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
