Bicycle Dispute Leads to Stabbing in Riverhead
A dispute over a bicycle erupted into a large fight near the Riverhead train station Friday night and ended with one man being stabbed, police said.
Just before 8 p.m., Riverhead police received a report of a stabbing on Railroad Avenue. Responding officers found a 27-year-old Riverhead man with an open wound to his lower leg. “It appeared that he had been cut by some type of object,” police said in a press release.
Members of the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated the victim at the scene and transported him to the nearby Peconic Bay Medical Center.
During the course of their investigation, police discovered that a dispute broke out between several men over a bicycle and developed into a fight that involved a large group. The victim, who police did not name, was cut by an unknown person in the crowd, investigators said.
