Cops Casting Net for Thief Who Stole Fishing Rods
Police are hoping to catch a thief they said stole expensive fishing rods from a boat in Montauk last month.
East Hampton Town Police Department detectives asked for the public’s help to identify and locate the man who swiped four custom Captain Neil Faulkner fishing rods off a boat docked at the West Lake Marina on August 26. According to a Suffolk County Crime Stoppers alert issued early Wednesday morning, the theft occurred at approximately 3:10 a.m.
Each rod had a gold reel, as well as a first name and the phrase “Reel Busy,” printed on it, police said. The rods cost a total of approximately $5,600.
Police released a surveillance image of the suspect, who they described as white or Hispanic with a mustache and a goatee. He reportedly fled the West Lake Drive Marina in a white pickup truck, possibly a Nissan Frontier.
