Crash Shuts Down Portion of Flanders Road
A portion of Flanders Road is closed due to a crash Friday afternoon.
At approximately 11:25 a.m., Southampton Town police received several 911 calls for a single vehicle crash. Police found a Ford Econline van that struck a transformer pole and trees on Flanders Road, which is also Route 24, just south of Spinney Road.
The Flanders Fire Department responded to extricate the driver from the mangled van, which overturned and was wrapped around a tree, and Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps attended to the driver.
A Suffolk County police medevac was responding to airlift to Stony Brook University Hospital, the nearest level-one trauma center.
The pole was broken in half with the transformer and wires on the ground. Detectives were on scene taking measurements.
Flanders Road is currently closed southbound at Long Neck Boulevard and Pleasure Drive and northbound at Red Creek Road in Hampton Bays.
