Police Investigating Two Commercial Burglaries Over Labor Weekend
Two businesses in East Hampton Town were burglarized over the Labor Day weekend, and police are investigating whether the two are connected.
Bostwick’s Chowder House in East Hampton, which is located on Pantigo Road, also part of Montauk Highway, and Amagansett Seafood, on Montauk Highway in that hamlet, were both hit either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, East Hampton Town police said.
The burglary forced Bostwick’s to close for the day during the busy holiday weekend. “We are sorry, but due to an unfortunate act of vandalism and robbery, we are currently closed,” a post on Bostwick’s Facebook page said Sunday. “We are all ok and are hopeful that the perpetrators will be caught. We thank you for your support and understanding and we hope to see you soon.”
Bostwick’s reopened on Sunday for outdoor dining and curbside takeout. The restaurant owners did not respond for a request for comment.
Detective Sgt. Dan Toia declined to release further details about the burglaries, as it is an active investigation. Asked if the two break-ins were connected, he said, “We are looking into that possibility.”
