Pols Seek Public Input on Pot
The Town of Riverhead is asking for residents’ input on whether or not it should opt out of allowing sales of newly legalized recreational marijuana.
Like all towns, villages, and cities in New York State, the town has until December 31 to decide whether to allow pot shops and cannabis cafes within its borders, or restrict such entities to specific locations.
“It is critical we engage stakeholders of our community and receive their input,” Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar said.

While most East End leaders have taken a wait-and-see approach, the Village of Westhampton Beach recently joined the Village of Quogue in publicly debating whether to ban public consumption of marijuana within village boundaries.
