Area Chefs Battle for Dominance at Sold Out North Fork Chili Cook-Off

East End chili fans have something to anticipate next month.
The 5th Annual North Fork Chili Cook-Off, where highly acclaimed local eateries compete for top honors, is coming to Greenport Harbor Brewing in Peconic (42155 Main Road) on Sunday, February 5.
This year’s excellent list of participants include: First & South, Little Creek Oysters, Green Hill Kitchen, Alpina, Lucharitos, Little Fish, Ellen’s on Front, Crazy Beans, 1943 Pizza Bar and Windamere at Strong’s Water Club. Members of Greenport Harbor Brewery’s staff will also compete against each other with their own unique recipes.
In addition to the awesome chili that will be making the rounds on Sunday, The brewery team has created two new beers for the event: The Hot Sauce is an IPA conditioned with various hot peppers and fresh squeezed lime juice, and Soundings 1 Smoky Helles is “bright, toasty and crisp, with a touch of smoky character.”
Brewed with an eye toward Bamburg, Germany, this 4.9% ABV beer is #1 in a new limited release series that charts the course of Greenport Harbor’s explorations.
The brewery has recruited an exciting roster of judges for the event.
North Fork Chili Cook-Off Judges
Chef Paul Eschbach – a Michelin star chef with more than 20 years of professional culinary experience. He is currently Executive Chef at the Topping Rose House and writer of Marvel’s T.E.S.T. Kitchen comic, a story about a chef working at Iron Man alter-ego Tony Stark’s Stark Enterprises, with artist E.J. Su and real recipes in each issue.
Chef Sarah Mastracco – an Emmy and James Beard nominated producer for television’s most loved culinary talents and personalities, such as Martha Stewart, Snoop Dog, Emeril Lagasse and more.
Chef Lihn Trieu – former chef/owner of the beloved Wednesday’s Table Cafe in Southold. Prior to this, she worked at some of the most prestigious restaurants in NYC.
Chef Ursula XVII – a passionate chocolatier who launched Disset Chocolate on the North Fork with the desire to bring “farm to bonbon” to life.
Chef Julien Shapiro – a butcher, baker and sausage maker at 8 Hands Farm in Cutchogue. He is a well-known charcuterie master and former chef at upscale restaurants in France and the U.S.
Join the North Fork Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, February 5 from noon–4 p.m. Along with the chili and new brews, Greenport Harbor is serving their full lineup of beers, and great local wine.
