Retailer J. McLaughlin on Worth Avenue has distinguished itself as a generous supporter of charitable causes, from the Everglades Foundation to the Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County. The creator of American classic sportswear for women and men aligned for the first time with Dress for Success Palm Beaches (DFSPB), hosting a sip-and-shop fundraiser that saw 15 percent of sales going to the nonprofit.

Close to 85 guests joined in the springtime celebration amid the colorful array of stylish designs. According to Perman, proceeds raised at the evening soiree will be used for the free job readiness and career coaching programs that DFSPB offers women. Resume writing, interviewing skills, how to navigate the internet in search of and response to job postings are among the topics covered by one-on-one mentors and expert speakers who work with clients.

Personal stylists help them find the appropriate job interview attire and, once they land a job, choose a full week’s work wardrobe. The ultimate goal is to empower women to achieve economic independence, and, in the process, they undergo a transformative experience, gaining newfound confidence and a sense of self-worth. More than 600 clients have been helped in the past year.
