East Hampton Hispanic Parade & Peruvian Festival Debuts
East Hampton made history with the inaugural Hamptons Hispanic Parade in addition to the annual Peru to the World Expo. The event had representation from Peru, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela.
The Hamptons Hispanic Parade was hosted by the Peru to the World Expo Foundation and East Hampton Village Foundation. The Peru to the World Expo Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing humanitarian aid and education to children, directed the proceeds towards supporting the Peruvian city of Piura.
Over 200 parade participants marched, drove and rode on floats, displaying their national flags. Grand marshals Juan Chipoco, Gabriela Berrospi, Clever Lopez, Veronica Chumbi and Tony Villalobos led the parade. There was a Family Fair featuring kids’ activities and goods from local providers along with cultural music and folk dances, followed by the presentation of awards and remarks by dignitaries.
The Lifetime Award of Excellence was given to Jorge Berrios, Marcela Carlin and Federico Martinez. Antonella Bertello was honored as Entrepreneur of the Year. The 12th annual Peru to the World Expo was held at Herrick Park, with a Grand Culinary Tasting and Drinks, where over 40 chefs served Latin cuisine and cocktails made with Pisco, Peru’s national drink.
