Located on Noyac Road in Sag Harbor for the past 18 years, Nancy’s Tailoring & Alterations specializes in alterations and clothing repair for prom, graduation and bridal wear, and men’s tuxedos and suits for all types of fabric, including silk, leather, suede and fur.

Run by Nancy Nano, who apprenticed with her seamstress mother in her native Peru and has been perfecting her craft with needle and thread for three decades, Nancy’s Tailoring & Alterations offers home deliveries and now operates a mobile van throughout New York State.

MOBILE TAILORING

For weddings and other special events, Nancy and her team of up to six tailors can be on-site to do minor alterations, steaming and ironing from their mobile tailoring van right before the event.

This summer, Nancy did last minute alterations for famous artists for a white party event. She’s also frequently assisted Prada, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Peter Millar and other high-end designers at their shops or on location in the Hamptons and New York City.

Whenever they have any events going on, they call Nancy. It could be in-store events or when they have a fashion show for new store clothing. Nancy and her team were on hand to ensure the clothes fit just right at an East Hampton hotel for a photoshoot with actress Emma Roberts for Tod’s.

For bigger alterations, Nancy will bring the clothes back to the shop where she has all her equipment, and can return them hours later.

DRESS CONSULTATIONS

Ideally, a bride will come into Nancy’s Tailoring & Alterations about three months before her nuptials, try on the dress, and confer with Nancy on what alterations are needed. She will alter the dress perfectly to the client’s body, add or remove sleeves or work on any other aspect of the design.

Nancy can make anything the bride would want, including veils or adding intricate or delicate embellishments, like pearl buttons or lace trim.

The tailors then get to work and make an appointment for a second fitting. Typically, the work is completed in two to three fittings.

WEDDING ROOM

Nancy’s Tailoring & Alterations features a separate wedding room in the shop designated for wedding parties, where brides, bridesmaids and mother-of-the-brides and the wedding planner can come together to have their dresses altered.

Recently, Nancy and her team altered sky-blue silk gowns for a dozen bridesmaids from a wedding party from Shelter Island.

They all ordered the dresses, but none of them fit: They were all too big, so they all came over to Nancy and she fitted them and designed each dress to fit them correctly.

In one instance, a bride, who had her wedding dress made remotely by a California designer, discovered when she tried it on, it didn’t fit her at all.

They came over to Nancy, who basically redesigned the entire dress for them.

Using skills she developed when she worked with designers in NYC, Nancy uses her glamour-designing eye. She helps them design it until the bride is happy and feels glamorous as a bride should on her special day. Nancy also fits grooms for their big day.

PALM BEACH WINTERS

Due to high demand from her customers, many of whom reside in the Hamptons during the summer and head south to Palm Beach for the winter season, Nancy will bring her tailoring service to the Sunshine State for the first time this January.

While keeping the Sag Harbor location open, Nancy and a couple of tailors will stay in the Palm Beach area until April, where she’ll be available for house calls throughout Palm Beach County.

If her services are in really high demand, Nancy may consider setting up a brick and mortar shop year round in Florida as a second location.
